Why a drawer seal wears out sooner
A door seal is pressed against a fixed frame and left alone. A drawer seal is loaded and unloaded every time somebody pulls the basket out, and it carries weight while it does it. Add ice on the runners and the drawer stops arriving in the same place twice, and the gasket begins sealing against air instead of metal.

Look along the joint with the drawer shut. A line of frost down one side, a draught you can feel with the back of a hand, or a front sitting forward of the one above it say the same thing: the seal is no longer being met. Left alone it feeds itself — the gap admits humid air, that air freezes onto the runners, and frozen runners hold the drawer further out still.
